'Star ...' Revisited

I’m always eager to expand the range of what can be adressed incidentally using Animated Step-by-Steps®. As noted in an earlier post  we have used 'star ...'  to indicate when a series of clicks are required. Rather than displaying several stars,  a ‘star …’ serves as the place holder for several clicks.

Recently,  I have modified this format to include parenthesis that more clearly denote how many clicks are required, e.g.,  (3) .  In this example,  the ‘star …’ format indicates that 3 clicks are required to bring in three plant- eating dinosaurs. This revised strategy ‘builds in’ a discrete number that allows differentiated instruction (providing a counting agenda).

On this page, students are required to indicate whether a particular dinosaur is a plant- or a meat- eating dinosaur. The ‘star … (6) ’ reinforces the fact that 6 clicks/animations will be required to complete this page.   Count them as you go!

…’til the next post …  (new posts every Monday)
